You all probably know by now that we are huge fans of wine and cheese. I mean, who wouldn't be living in Sonoma, right?? Point being, we eat a lot of cheese. So when I say that this goat cheese will absolutely knock your socks off, I am speaking from extensive experience. CHEVOO was created by Gerard and Susan Tuck, two Aussies who moved to California with their three children. This style of marinated goat cheese was a staple in their household for years while living in Australia, so they knew they had to bring it with them to the US.
"CHEVOO is made from the highest quality goat curd, hand-blended with new and unique combinations of spices, herbs, chilis and pollens – then paired with an extra virgin olive oil blend that has been infused with crushed botanicals for 4 – 8 weeks. The combination of flavor profiles in both the chèvre and infused oil makes CHEVOO quite delectable."
We actually love this cheese so much that we decided to style an entire picnic basket around it. In addition to CHEVOO we included fresh blackberries and raspberries, a sweet baguette from The Basque Boulangerie Cafe, an assortment of crackers, pear jam, jalapeno peanut chocolate bars from Lolli and Pops (another ASL Favorite), a bag of strawberry Smashmallows and of course, a bottle of bubbles from Chandon. You really can't have a picnic without bubbles, it's practically the law here in Wine Country.
The perfect picnic basket contains a little bit of every flavor profile, something sweet, something savory, something salty, something with a little spice. The Aleppo-Urfa Chili & Lemon flavor of CHEVOO checks most of these boxes on it's own, and therefore pairs beautifully with each and every item within the basket. CHEVOO comes in several flavors, and can be found in stores across the country.
Here are a few ideas from Susan and Gerard on how else to use the cheese, if you can stop yourself from eating the whole jar in one sitting. Trust me, that is harder than it sounds.
The possibilities are endless …
- Crumble the soft chèvre over your favorite salad, and toss with the infused oil.
- Serve for breakfast, stirring through scrambled eggs, on a bagel with smoked salmon, or on toast with smashed avocado.
- Stir the chèvre through pasta or melt it on a thin crust pizza then drizzle the oil to finish.
- Melt on grilled vegetables. The list goes on!
