If you’ve ever been in need of a blow out, up-do, professional makeup, or a simple wax in Sonoma, chances are you’ve been to Crush Beauty Bar. Kelly and I had a great time getting blowouts for a day of photo shoots at Crush, and our treatments did not disappoint. I wanted lots of volume, and I got lots of volume. The beautiful salon located at 595 5th St W, across the street from Safeway, is a one-stop shop for all of your beauty needs – they even carry a full line of makeup!
Owner Jerica Tercero knew at a young age that she wanted to own a salon. Growing up in Sonoma, at the age of seven, she remembers telling her dad that she wanted to be a cosmetologist. She says she doesn’t know how she knew what a cosmetologist was at that age, but she continued her dream through high school. For her senior project, Jerica studied “The Business of Beauty”, and after high school, she attended beauty school in Napa.
Shortly after earning her license, Jerica met her business partner, Jane, and the duo opened Peace N Beauty Salon. Jerica was 21 at the time, and could not believe her dream of owning a salon was coming true.
Since the opening four years ago, Peace N Beauty has grown to house six stylists as well as two lash stylists. After two years of business, Jerica began considering opening a second salon. It was through her best friend Casey Chavez, a blow dry expert, that she realized Sonoma lacked a blow out bar.
No longer able to offer clients 45 minute blow outs due to being booked out for cut and color services, Jerica often found herself referring clients to other stylists for blow dry needs. So, like any successful entrepreneur, Jerica saw a need, and decided to fill it. With that, Crush Beauty Bar was born; a place for a la carte beauty treatments for something as basic as a blow out to needs as intricate as a bridal party.
“It seemed unreal in the beginning when searching for locations, establishing a budget, and gathering all of the information and the proper materials to start a new business. This was a huge undertaking for me as I was working 8-10 hour days 5 days a week behind the chair at Peace N Beauty Salon and handling administrative work as a co-owner. After months of searching for a location, we stumbled across my dream location, literally my dream. When I imagined starting an additional salon I had always pictured it in the location that Crush Beauty Bar is at.”
Learning the ropes of payroll, employer administration, and scheduling challenged Jerica during the initial days of business, but her passion trumps all. With an amazing team of stylists under her belt, Jerica has been able to successfully establish the beauty bar in Sonoma, filling all of-the-moment beauty needs for men and women in the area.
Jerica is passionate about giving back to the community that she grew up in, the same community that has helped her reach her dreams at such a young age:
“I love it when someone says, “Oh yeah! I’ve heard of Crush, you guys helped my daughter's school auction,” or when someone pays us a compliment because we have donated time or services to help an organization. Those are the best moments.”
Crush Beauty Bar is a place to celebrate life’s special moments, whether that be a wedding day, 75th birthday party, or even a 5th birthday. The salon now carries a full line of make-up products as well as gifts for everyone on your list. If you have yet to visit Crush, it’s the perfect spot to book your holiday beauty needs! They will be celebrating their first birthday on December 3rd, mark your calendar to stop by during regular business hours.
