Sonoma's newest lunch spot is here, in the form of Hare & Hatter Sausage Emporium. Tucked away in the back alleyway behind Plaza Bistro, the Hare & Hatter is a tiny cafe style restaurant that has everything from coffee to sausage sandwiches. If you've lived in Sonoma for a while, you have probably had a hot dog (voted the best Gourmet Hotdog in Sonoma for 2015 and 2016 by the public) at Friedman's home improvement at one time or another. This hot dog stand was the original Hare & Hatter, which has now moved to the El Paseo courtyard off the square.
Aside from their award winning hot dog, Hare & Hatter Sausage emporium has a menu full of artisan gourmet sausages served with traditional hand-crafted breads, accompanied by an array of fresh and exciting ingredients from around the world.
Our personal favorite from Hare & hatter Sausage Emporium is the Sonoma Sausage flight. It is their take on a cheeseboard, and let's just say that it is a breath of fresh air. Not that you can ever have too many cheeseboards, but it is great to switch things up every now and then, and this is definitely the spot to do it. This board has 3 different types of sausage, accompanied by 3 dipping sauces and mustards, olives, fresh salad greens, toasted french bread, AND comes with either two glasses of house wine or two cold beers. At only $28 this might be the best deal on the plaza- and is sure to be a fresh experience for your tastebuds. Not to mention, if you go in at happy hour, you get the board for only $24! Or you can try your luck at winning one via their website, here. Head to our instagram to see how you can get a deal on their sausage board 24/7!
This hidden gem is slightly off the beaten path on the Sonoma Plaza, but well worth the detour. Their sausage sandwiches are inspired by flavors from across the globe, and make the perfect lunch pick-me-up. Order a sandwich to go, or buy a friend a giftcard to treat themselves this holiday season! Hare & Hatter Sausage Emporium is a fantastic alternative to the wine tasting rooms and sit-down restaurants around the plaza. Make sure to pay them a visit this holiday season and support a long standing Sonoma family!
