This past week our Savvy team was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon with the incredible team at Jessica Lasky Catering. A Savvy Event works with JLC frequently on all types of events from weddings to baby showers and it is always a treat. Jessica Lasky and her team are a boutique catering company specializing in local, seasonal, California cooking with an accent towards the Mediterranean. So, when we were invited to head down to "The Little Kitchen" for a tasting and a shoot our team was beyond excited.
The Little Kitchen is a great space to host a small private dinner or event, full of natural light and bright accents throughout. As you walk through the door your eyes dance over stacked platters, ceramics, baskets, and buckets tucked underneath tables or placed on shelves. We probably could have spent the entire afternoon exploring all the unique items in their collection but alas, there was food to be enjoyed. With a glass of J. Mourat Collection Val de Loire Rosé in hand, we delved in.
Seared ahi tuna loin with chunky grapefuit vinaigrette, cumin roasted chick peas, mustard greens and golden beets
Grilled flank steak and spinach salad. Shaved parmesean, pickled shallots
Classic macaroni and cheese with crispy bresaola, spring peas and homemade bread crumbs
Baby gems with shaved apples, point Reyes blue cheese dressing and toasted almonds
Chambord Sabayon with spring strawberries and fried tarragon
If you aren't already drooling just from reading that menu, you will be after you see how gorgeous every single one of these dishes are.
The real feat of the day was that we managed to wipe out that entire batch of mac and cheese. Truthfully we would have eaten ourselves sick if it had been any bigger because it was so tasty.
I'm not exaggerating when I say every bite of this meal was just as good as it looks and left nothing to be desired. Jessica Lasky's team has an impeccable ability to create food that is exactly what you wanted without knowing you even wanted it. It is the type of food that broadens your palette without pushing you off the deep end all at once. It is simple yet full of pleasant surprises, and I know I speak for the entire A Savvy Event team when I say that we always look forward to any time spent with Jessica Lasky Catering whether we are fortunate enough to enjoy some of their food or not.
