After traveling to Ibiza, Paris, and Barcelona to reconnect with her past, Alex became inspired not by the art she saw, but rather the natural elements of the surroundings. She spent time living in each location as a child, and knew that going back would be a special experience, especially with her own children.
"I didn’t feel that I had to be fulfilled by going to an art museum, it was the cobblestone streets, and graffiti, the windows and colors, and the textures and surfaces around me. Everything was so new to my eyes, and that is what has inspired this show."
Once home to the states, Alex began to create artwork that represented her experiences during the trip. She describes the work as, "realistic views of the landscape and representational paintings of the surfaces, patterns and textures."
If you follow Alex on Instagram, you couldn't have missed the sketches she shared during her trip. I immediately fell in love with them, and can't wait to see more as they will be included in the show.
The show can be viewed at Bump Tasting Room & Gallery throughout the month of October. With this being a solo show, Alex has had creative freedom to showcase art of all sizes, including sketches, and of course, paintings. The opening is open to the public, so if you're free this Friday night, call up a friend and come out to enjoy a night of art & wine!
