As wine country and its residents rebuild from the wine country fires, we want to emphasize the importance of shopping locally this holiday season. The generosity of the community and local business owners has been pivotal to the recovery process and we could not be more grateful to them for all of their help. While there has been a good amount of focus on supporting local businesses, we want to emphasize how important that is this holiday season. According to the American Research Group, U.S. shoppers anticipated spending an average of $929 last holiday season on gifts. Think about what an impact it would make for local business owners if everyone shopped locally!
While many of these business owners were not necessarily impacted by the fires in the most obvious sense, they weathered two weeks (or more) of closure during wine country’s busiest tourist season. These are businesses who have since donated time, services, food, clothing, and more to help our community despite their losses over those two weeks. We think it is time to give them a proper thank you, and show our support for Sonoma by being conscious consumers. Think about who you are buying from, where it came from, what went into making it. We are curating our own Savvy local gifting guide for you all that will be coming to you soon- but for now, buy someone a bottle of local wine, take a friend out to dinner downtown, or buy that top you’ve been eyeing at the local boutique. There is no better time to celebrate all of the wonderful food, wine, and businesses that call Sonoma home.
