Celebrating 10 Years of A Savvy Event

Exactly ten years ago to this day, Kelly McLeskey-Dolata bought a blackberry and website domain, and the wine country wedding world has never been the same since. It was coincidental that Kelly started her wedding business on her parents' wedding anniversary, but if you know Kelly, you know there are few things that happen by mere coincidence for her. Kelly was determined to bring her dream to fruition, and worked tirelessly for hours in her garage (move over Steve Jobs), building her team and brand one day at a time. Now, A Savvy Event is known as one of the premiere wedding and event planning companies in Sonoma and Napa Valley, and Kelly has cemented herself as one of the most creatively talented members of the wedding community.

As an homage to Kelly and the wonderful ten years that Savvy has been in business, we thought it would be fun to take a walk down memory lane... wedding memory lane that is. Take a peek at how the design aesthetic of A Savvy Event, and of weddings has evolved over the last ten years. What trends have stayed and what trends have gone by the wayside? We'll let you be the judge!

The Borrowed Box

The Borrowed Box is a Bay Area based company that just launched, and we had the privilege of previewing their collection here at A Savvy Lifestyle and A Savvy Event. Bridal accessory designer, Zalikha Safdari of Ossai San Francisco founded The Borrowed Box to make luxury bridal accessories more accessible to the every day bride.

The Borrowed Box allows brides to wear high-end luxury pieces for a fraction of the cost by renting them. The boxes range from 3 pieces all the way to 7, and you can choose from veils, capelets, cap sleeves, sashes, belts, necklaces, earrings, bracelets, and hair pieces. Essentially you can "borrow" every bridal accessory you might need to go with your dress, and some are even able to be customized. All the pieces are also available for purchase, so that you can keep your earrings or the veil you wore on your wedding day if it holds a significant sentimental value to you.

As soon as we heard what The Borrowed Box was all about we knew that we had to team up with them, and share their amazing collection and services with you all! Our blog editor, Emily, just happened to be attending a black tie wedding in New York this month, and she saw this as a perfect opportunity to not only showcase their accessories, but to show the versatility within the accessories- they can be for everyone, not just brides! (Well, some of them are only for brides, but you get the just...).

Emily and Zalikha sat down to talk about the look she was going for and what she was planning on wearing. After this consultation Zalikha sent Emily a look book of options for each piece Emily had expressed interest in, so that she could choose. After selecting her looks, all Emily had to do was give Zalikha the shipping address for delivery, and wait with bated breath to see the accessories in person.

From Emily...

"Let me just say these pieces from The Borrowed Box exceeded my expectations ten fold. From the details of the beautiful wrapping paper and personalized box to the accessories themselves, there was no detail that went overlooked in the entire experience. Zalikha and her team curated the perfect accessories for me to wear to a black tie wedding in New York, with the package arriving seamlessly to the hotel I was staying at. I received a multitude of compliments on the hairpiece, earrings, and bracelet that I wore, and would absolutely recommend The Borrowed Box to any future brides, bridesmaids, or even guests of black tie events!"

Although this is just a tiny peek at what The Borrowed Box is able to curate, the intricacy and quality of all their accessories is represented perfectly in the three pieces Emily wore. Zalikha and her team truly have a "sky's the limit" mentality and can assist in creating customized looks for any bride's style. If you are still searching for that "something borrowed" or to get your own Borrowed Box, email theborrowedbox@gmail.com or reach out via their Instagram
