The Red Grape is a Sonoma staple run by local couple Sam and Carol Morphy for the last 15 years. Their carefully curated menu of thin crust pizzas, local pastas, salads, and deserts is one of the best on the Sonoma Plaza.
Although the Red Grape is great for a long list of occasions, we think it is the perfect place to take your family out for Valentine's Day this year! The casual, family friendly atmosphere is great for kids and parents alike. You can have a relaxing family dining experience without compromising on the quality of food or wine.
They recently renovated the space, upgrading to a lighter ambiance with clean, modern touches.
In our humble opinion, you can't go to The Red Grape without ordering a pizza. The Morphys spent years perfecting the recipe for their crust and you can tell, because it's so good. The crunchy, thin crust is high-fired in a stone-lined wood pizza oven.
Each month, The Red Grape offers specials featuring seasonal produce or limited edition menu items. Click here to view the February list in its entirety.
We have heard wonders about their new chopped salad, and let me tell you, it lives up to the expectations.
It is a wonderful combination of chopped lettuce, provolone, cherry tomatoes, garbanzo beans, pepperonchinis, green olives, and red onion, tossed in an oregano lemon vinaigrette. We also highly recommend adding the pepperoni and salami to this salad for even more flavor. It is a fairly large portion so it is perfect to share with the whole family. The flavors all compliment each other beautifully, and a variety of textures makes this salad a delight to eat.
Like I said before, Carol and Sam have perfected their pizza. So much that in fact, cheese and pepperoni might be two of my favorite options. The simplicity of these toppings allows you to truly enjoy the handcrafted crust and flavors of their sauce. However, they have quite the selection of both red and white pizzas (all delicious), which you can view here. Another personal favorite is the Prosciutto and Goat Cheese white pizza, which is fantastic.
Clearly, the kiddos enjoyed the pizza thoroughly. Stella, Sam and Carol's granddaughter, even said that pizza is "her favorite."
As if dinner wasn't decadent enough, then they bring you the desert menu. We decided to stick to the classics and order the chocolate cake topped with scoop vanilla ice cream, anglaise sauce, caramel sauce, and whipped cream. The warm, moist cake accompanied by a scoop of Sweet Scoops vanilla ice cream is the perfect treat to indulge in for Valentine's Day.
Truth be told, the kids went for this right off the bat. I mean, can you blame them? This cake seems like the perfect reason to have dessert first. But, it's a real testament to how delicious the pizza is that they ate a whole one after devouring the chocolate cake and ice cream.
The good news is you don't have to be the owner's grandson to have a blast running around The Red Grape as a kid. This place is always packed with families and couples alike for lunch and dinner.
Plus, if you can't make it out for dinner, they do take out! Pick up a pizza or two to share (or not share), and have a fabulous dinner in without all the hassle of cooking.
Valentine's Day is finally here and we think The Red Grape is a great option for date night or a night out with the family. Let us know what your favorites are and how you spend V-Day!
