When Bill & Eva Price restored the historic Vallejo-Casteñada Adobe, they wanted to keep it as authentic as possible, it was important to them to honor the architecture of the property, as it is one of the last buildings remaining of the California Mexican Period in Sonoma.
The Adobe is the longest occupied residence in Sonoma, standing for over 170 years, with multiple owners and inhabitants, the Prices wanted to incorporate the heritage of The Adobe within the design. To accomplish this, they turned to none other than Ken Fulk
When you step outside, you are welcomed by an inviting outdoor living space designed by Landscape Architect, Penney Magrane, who worked hard to marry Ken's design to the original Helen Van Pelt garden design. The fire pit, sitting areas, and outdoor dining area are all reflections of the authentic restoration of the property.
Just as important as the atmosphere of The Adobe, is the wine. Oh the wine! I wanted to buy every bottle of Chardonnay they had! We experienced a lovely tasting provided by Hayden, where we were educated on the source of The Adobe's wine - Durell Vineyard and Gap's Crown, among others. The sourcing of grapes is very important to the Prices and each variety is hand selected to make sure the flavors of the wine will speak to the 'flavors' of Three Sticks and The Adobe.
As we munched and sipped in the private tasting room, Hayden shared some of her favorite aspects of the wine and the property, which added a sense of community to the table. We didn't feel as if we were at a wine tasting, instead we felt like old friends enjoying a glass of wine, laughing over our favorite stories. Hayden shared how important it is
Which is what they do best - great wine, paired with great food, and great conversation. You will love visiting The Adobe. Located right off the square, it's the perfect second stop to enjoy more great wine and get a bite to eat after you visit Pangloss Cellars.
