When we started A Savvy Lifestyle, one of the missions Kelly and I had, was to share Sonoma in a light that accentuated more than just wine tasting. Yes, there is some amazing wine in the area, everyone knows that, right?... Cue Geico commercial, but it's Sonoma's unspoken gems that really make it a special place.
It might not surprise you to hear that Sonoma boasts many amazing farmer's markets, but one of the highest attended is the Tuesday Night Market on the square, also known as the Valley of the Moon Certified Farmer's Market.
If you're local, then you probably already know all about
The 'Valley of the Moon' market is simply referred to as 'market', and seems to be the only place to be on a Tuesday night besides Pizza & Pinot. You're bound to run into someone you know, so if you're just visiting, plan on making new friends!
The market generally features live music, as one of the missions of the market's founders is to give Bay Area musicians a venue for showcasing their talents. What that said, plan on eating dinner there, but remember to BYOB. No alcohol is sold on the square, with the exception of sealed bottles.
We suggest packing a blanket, a bottle of your favorite wine (how about some Hamel rosé?), and bringing a bit of cash to buy dinner. There are so many amazing food options to choose from, you won't know where to start. In true Chloe form, I started with mini-donuts (which were worth every. Single. Calorie.), and then moved on to a rice bowl from Rocket Sushi, which I truthfully am still having dreams about...it was that good.
Kelly's kiddos look forward to the out-of-this-world corn-dogs whenever they head to the market, but if you're not a sushi or corn-dog lover, you're still bound to find something you love, the options are endless. Unlike the Friday market, the Tuesday market is more of a 'go out and have fun' atmosphere - although there are many fruits and veggies for sale, you'll find most everyone sipping on a glass of wine, munching on a corn-dog, and enjoying each other's company.
If you find yourself in Sonoma on a Tuesday night this summer, skip restaurant reservations, and opt to head to the square instead. You'll get a taste of authentic Sonoma (literally & figuratively), and enjoy live music and great company!
